ILMINSTER SWIMMING CLUB
Who are the ISC?
We are an over 16’s swimming club, affiliated to Swim England, with a long history of inspiring people of all ages to swim for their physical and mental health - while placing a huge emphasis on fun and enjoying swimming too!
Our amazing, qualified coach will help you to improve, relearn and master your swimming style and strokes; whether you are looking to improve your physical fitness, to improve your mental health, socialise, or to be pushed on with bespoke coaching programmes.
The choice is yours.
The Club was formed 40 years ago by a group of parents who could find no-one to teach their children to swim, so they decided to do it for themselves! To a certain extent that philosophy is still true today. Members and swimmers past and present still run the club solely on a voluntary basis for the benefit of teaching and developing swimming for everyone to enjoy.
Ilminster Swimming Club now takes swimmers from 16 years, with abilities ranging from beginners to experienced athletes /open swimmers; our aim being to provide a safe, invigorating and enjoyable way to learn and develop swimming as a life skill for everyone.
Background
Throughout its history, the Club has generated and participated in local swimming galas, but at present we do not compete, and are designated as 'Club Train' within Swim England. The option remains open however, and we would happily explore re-engaging in competition if new or existing members wish.
Swim England Affiliation
In 2017, the ASA rebranded itself to Swim England, but it's formal name remains the Amateur Swimming Association. Swim England continues to lead aquatic sports and competitions in England, and maintains rigorous processes to ensure that Affiliated clubs operate in a safe and compliant way and have achieved suitable standards of safe and effective practice. Swim England affiliation ensures that members are can train and compete safely and with appropriate insurance.
Support to local swimming
Ilminster Swimming Club is proud to have supported local swimming since the club was founded, hosting galas and generating funds for good causes through club charity events. We currently hold a modest Trust Fund which can be used to help principally (but not exclusively) current and former club members to expand their support to local swimming inside and outside the club.
We are pleased to have recently assisted a young former club member to progress through to an SEQ Level 2 Teaching qualification.
If you would like to find out more about the Trust Fund, or the application process for funding, then please contact the club chair at chairman.isc2011@gmail.com
